the Royal Society of Marine Artists and in November 1997 he
was elected a member and was subsequently featured on Tyne
Tees Television's "A Day In The Life Of ..." series.
He is
the current Archivist
for the Society.
It has been primarily
because of this exclusive membership that Robert's work hangs
in exhibitions with many of the country's leading artists
and has come to the attention of some prominent collectors,
which has enhanced his already established reputation.
Born in
Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire in 1949, Robert worked in
the Structural Engineering field as a Computer Aided Design
Manager until 1992 when he moved to Whitby, North Yorkshire
to paint full time. Since 2019, Robert lives in Cumbria.
Working in Watercolour,
Oil, and Pastel, Robert's inspiration is the challenge of
capturing light and atmosphere in a contemporary impressionistic
style.
He paints,
mainly landscape and coastal scenery, around his home in Cumbria
and on painting trips to North Yorkshire, Cornwall, the South
Coast, Wales, Scotland and further afield in Venice, Greece,
France and India.
Although primarily a landscape artist, Robert occasionally
paints interiors and figurative subjects. As always, Robert
strives to reproduce the quality of light in the chosen subject.
Robert holds Solo Exhibitions and occasionally demonstrates & tutors Workshops for Art Societies and painting groups in watercolours, oils and pastels.
Robert's
first book, entitled Painting Boats & Coastal
Scenery was published by Crowood Press in August
2009 and Painting in Pastels in September
